Uphill Lie Pitch Shot

Setup

  • I have selected a less lofted club than usual as playing off of an uphill lie will produce a higher shot.
  • At address I have slightly more weight favouring my right side. (leaning with the slope). My shoulders are parallel with the slope. This ensures my club does not approach the ball from an excessively steep angle which can often create duffed shots.

Backswing

  • I focus on keeping my lower body stable throughout the swing. This allows me to maintain my balance which is essential for good creating solid strikes from awkward lies.
  •  I try to focus on minimising wrist hinge in the swing. By reducing the amount of moving parts in the golf swing, it can make it easier to make solid contact on awkward lies.

Impact

  • I try to imagine my club sliding up the slope. This will ensure a shallow angle of approach allowing the club to slide into the ball. Many amateurs get very steep which creates inconsistent strike patterns.
  • My chest and hands are slightly ahead of the ball through impact which helps to create a crisp strike.

Finish

  • Many amateurs tend to get very ‘handsy’ when the body stops rotating. Ensuring your chest and body have rotated to face the target post impact will help you maintain acceleration through impact and allow you to remain in control of the club face.
