The Greenside Bunker Shot

Setup

Greenside bunker shot tips from Bristol Golf Coach Alex Munro

  • Ball position is central as I am looking for the club to approach the ball from a shallow angle which allows the club to slide through the sand
  • 60% of my weight is favouring my left side. This encourages a descending strike into the sand behind the ball
  • As you can see my hands are level with the golf ball. This allows me to utilise the bounce angle on the club which enables the club head to slide through the sand with minimal digging

Swing

  • At halfway, I am looking to see a full wrist hinge This helps me to get the club working down into the sand with plenty of speed to ensure I pop the ball up and out of the bunker
  • My lower body remains stable and I am focusing on keeping 60% of my weight over my left side

Impact

  • I have slightly increased the amount of pressure over my left side as I move through the ball
  • The club head has over taken my hands post impact ensuring I deliver plenty of dynamic loft and allow the sole of the club to slide through the sand

Finish

  • My chest and body have fully extended post impact. This shows my body has rotated fully through the ball ensuring I maintain club head speed and do not decelerate through the hitting area
