As you can see from my address positon, my hands are slightly further back from where I would play a standard pitch shot. This ensures I utilise the bounce angle of the club. This is essential as it will prevent the leading edge from digging into the compacted mud.
I have setup with approximately 60% of my weight favouring my left side and my sternum is positioned ahead of the ball. This will help me create a descending strike ensuring I connect with the ball before the ground
?
Backswing
My main focus in the backswing is keeping the amount of wrist hinge to a minimum. This will get the club approaching the ball from a shallow angle which will allow the club to clip the ball off of the top of the mud. It will also prevent the leading edge of the club from digging in.
I will also ensure I keep 60% of my weight over my left side as lateral movement around the green can often result in mis strikes and difficulty controlling distance.
Impact
I now have approximately 70% of my weight favouring the left side and my chest is rotating with my arms. You will notice my sternum is perfectly aligned with my hands and the club head. This connection is essential, not only for making solid contact with the ball but also distance and trajectory control.
Finish
My chest and hips are now facing the target. This is a clear indication that my body and arms have remained connected and rotated fully throughout the downswing, a crucial element for consistently solid contact.
