I have chosen to hit 1 club more than I would normally hit from this yardage as a well struck shot from a fairway bunker tends to come out slightly lower with more spin, both of which reduce carry distance.
My weight is evenly distributed with the ball positon very slightly forward of where I would usually play it.
Unlike a greenside bunker shot, I am looking to strike the ball first so I have not wriggled my feet into the sand.
Backswing
I focus on keeping my lower body stable in the backswing which often results in a slightly smaller hip and shoulder turn. This keeps the backswing slightly shorter and allows me to feel fully in control of the club.
I maintain my height during the swing. Excessive lowering in the backswing or downswing may lead to a greater chance of mis strikes which, out of a bunker will drastically influence distance control.
Impact
As you can see my body has remained at the same height throughout the downswing. I focus on maintaining my posture through impact and although I may sacrifice a little club head speed, this allows me to clip the ball off of the top of the sand.
I have more pressure favouring my left side as I transfer my weight through the ball. This ensures I create a ball/sand contact.
Finish
I ensure my chest and hips face the target after the shot This is a clear indicator that my body has continued rotating through impact which is key for consistent strikes and club face control.
